🥳 Dreeshen caves to public pressure and releases "confidential" Green Line report
After mounting public pressure from Calgarians for transparency, the MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake Devin Dreeshen, who continues to hold Calgary's Green Line hostage, has finally released a redacted version of his "confidential" AECOM report. Unfortunately for Dreeshen, it's dead on arrival in light of yesterday's news that the proposed "best alignment ever" is actually costlier, riskier, and years away from ever being shovel ready.
The report reveals that Devin Dreeshen's elevated Green Line alignment is nothing more than an idea - a quick two-month consultant's report someone who probably has never used transit in his life thought could replace 10 years of study, detailed design and public consultation.
Devin Dreeshen's formerly "confidential" Green Line report confirms that his proposed elevated alignment through Beltline and Downtown is nothing more than an idea years away from being even close to shovel ready.
Devin Dreeshen declared his disastrous crayon drawing the "The best Green Line alignment anyone could develop". So when he finally released the AECOM report, why did he redact the "PREFERRED DOWNTOWN OPTION" section unless maybe it says something other than what he's been telling Calgarians?
We still don't have transparency from the Alberta Government, which continues to withhold Ric McIver's confidential 2021 technical assessment that agreed with the City's underground Green Line alignment.
⬇️ Going underground in the Beltline and Downtown is the only real option on the table
The plans put forward by the City of Calgary are the only viable options for the Green Line. Anything else is just a sideshow distraction 🤡🎪.
🤑Underground arena for billionaires, but no underground public transit for the rest of us
The new arena is being constructed underground with ice level 37-ft below street level (left). Meanwhile the Province refuses to fund underground Green Line construction across the street. (Right - source: City of Calgary)
Danielle Smith and her UCP Government are contributing $55-million in taxpayer funds to build an underground arena for one of the richest billionaires in Canada (who lives in Switzerland). Meanwhile, she is refusing to contribute to build efficient underground public transit for taxpayers in Calgary.
📣Take Action!
✉️ 1) Email Calgary City Council
The Alberta Government report confirms Dreeshen failed to find a better or cheaper plan to build the Green Line in Calgary.
Ask City Council to fight for the Alberta Government to reinstate funding for the City's underground alignment, just like they funded a new underground arena for billionaires.
✉️ 2) Email the Alberta Government - Ditch the Dreeshen Drawing🖍️
The Alberta Government report confirms Dreeshen failed to find a better or cheaper plan to build the Green Line in Calgary.
Ask Danielle Smith and Devin Dreeshen to ditch Dreeshen's disastrous crayon drawing and get onboard with the City's shovel-ready underground plan for Downtown and the Beltline with the same enthusiasm they had for funding an underground arena for some of the wealthiest billionaires in Canada.
In the spirit of transparency, the Alberta Government must also release to the public Ric McIver's confidential 2021 technical assessment that agreed with the City's underground Green Line alignment.
